The National School Championships for Boxing have just passed and Libby from Meopham School has managed to defend her title for the second year in a row. In the 2016 competition, Libby claimed title for the 41.5 kilos weight class in the girls’ competition. This year, she has done it again!
Libby has been boxing for almost four years now and trains three times a week at a club in Sittingbourne. She started boxing mostly out of curiosity when her brothers took up the sport as a hobby. She’s been hooked on it ever since.
To win the title, Libby fought three rounds. She won two of these which earned her the golden boxing gloves. When asked about the competition, she said, “I was nervous going to the Finals again but I was confident in myself and thought I had a good chance of winning.”
Libby has now been offered the chance to box for England. They go to camp once a month and when a competition comes up for her class, she’ll be representing her country! Libby has just transitioned in to Year 9 and will now be fitting training around her GCSE subjects.
Boxing has become her passion. “My favourite thing about boxing is the fighting but the hardest part is the training up to it because you have to work really hard.” Libby is definitely not afraid of a little hard work and now has her sights set on winning more titles – this time for her country!
