Overview of the Subject

Science is a compulsory subject and as so many areas of our lives today are governed by science, it is crucial to have an awareness of this subject in order to make the right decisions on a whole realm of issues.

 

KS3

The Science course in Years 7, 8 and 9 aims to provide all students with the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Pupils are encouraged to develop rational explanations and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

 

KS4

All pupils take a balanced Combined Science course which provides a good foundation in the separate areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.The course encourages pupils to be engaged in, inspired by and motivated by the practical challenges set in the course of study.It provides understanding of how science works and makes links with their everyday experiences.

 

Edexcel examination board is used.

 

KS5

A-level Applied Science offers pupils the chance to concentrate on some of the vocational aspects of Science. It is ideal for students seeking a broad background in Science.

Knowledge/skills gained:

  • Understanding of the Science that affects nearly every aspect of our lives
  • The ability to plan, work and think independently through portfolio work
  • Written communication skills
  • the ability to apply knowledge and skills in appropriate vocational contexts
  • Practical skills, including the ability to plan, carry out and evaluate investigative work.
  • Analytical and synoptic skills

AQA examination board is used.
